The Research Paper
Topics and Guidelines
Over the next month or so, you will be working on a major research paper. You will need to devote some class time, library time, and computer time to the project. The links below will help you with your paper and you will need to check out your Writer's Craft book (It's the yellow one) for help with Thesis Statements, Outlines, Editing and any other helpful hints you might need when completing the paper.
This paper is to be 8-10 pages in MLA style. You will be graded on the following assignments, which should all be handed in to Mrs. Meek in a portfolio:
Thesis Statement: 50
Notecards (20): 20
Outline: 35
Works Cited Page: 35
Rough Draft: 45
Peer Editing Sheets (3): 15
Final Draft: 100
Total Points: 300
Research Paper: Topics:This is a list of topics, authors or genres you could use for your research paper. Mature Writing Activity:This activity will help you learn what makes a mature writer. Sentence Structure:Another helpful activity that reviews sentence structure. MLA Format, Tips, and Examples : Click here to find out about writing your paper in MLA style and how to do a works cited page, parenthetical documentation, etc. Comma Rules:I see a lot of comma mistakes in student writing. Make sure you know what you're doing.
