In this unit we read the works of some very famous Americans. Through their speeches and narratives we'll learn more about persuasive speaking and the techniques of persuasion.

In your literature book read the following selections and then answer the questions that follow at the end of each selection (this will help you with the quiz that follows this unit):
---Part 2 Introduction: The Right to be Free (p.256)
---Speech in the Virginia Convention by Patrick Henry (p.262)
---What is an American? by Michel-Guillaume Jean de Crevecoeur (p.289)
---Stride Toward Freedom by Martin Luther King Jr. and Necessary to Protect Ourselves by Malcolm X (p.300-307)

Notes: Rationalism in Colonial Times: Use these notes to learn more....

Use the concepts and opinions you've learned from these selections to help with your Persuasion Project.
