First Semester

Study the following units, in this order, and complete each unit by completing the study guides and writing assignments, and taking the quizzes and tests that correspond to the unit of study.
  • Native American Literature: The first unit covered in English III this year revolves around the literature of many Native American tribes, such as the Iriquois, the Navajo, and the Okanogan.(Reminder: The Creation Myth Project is found here.)

  • Puritan Literature and The Crucible: And....the second unit covered in English III involves the literature of some of the first settlers in America: the Puritans.

  • Colonial Literature/ Persuasion: This unit focuses on stories and speeches given by some famous colonialists before, during and after the American Revolution. It also gives students a chance to study persuasive techniques, appeals, vocabulary and persuasive essay writing. (Reminder: The Persuasion Project is found here.)

  • Individualism and Romanticism: This unit focuses on the American writers and poets of the Transcendentalism movement such as Emerson and Thoreau.

  • Linking Mathematics to American Literature: In this unit the student will enhance their mathematical skills using the literature studied during the 1st semester.



  • Fall Final Study Guide: Use this study guide as a test review sheet for the final for First Semester.
