Academic Requirements
In order to earn credit in English III the
student must meet the following requirements:
- Pass each Unit Test and the Unit
Quizzes with at least 70% correct. Pass Final Exams with a 60% or better.
- Complete and hand-in the three major
writing assignments/projects. The assignments are: the Creation Myth Project from the Native American Literature unit, a Persuasion Project for the Colonial literature unit of the first semester, and the 8-10 page Research Paper that is due by the end of the second semester.These assignments will be written in MLA
format, typed, double-spaced and graded using the 6 Trait Writing Model. (These three assignments are the ONLY assignments you hand in to Mrs. Meek ...and please hand them in to the virtual school office in hard copy if possible!)
The requirements for the papers are described in more
detail within the units and are assigned at different times during
the semesters.
Complete and emal the journal entries.
In order to complete the English III curriculum in
a timely manner you should complete the following units in this
order. The information in the parentheses refers to the amount of time it should take you to finish the unit. After you've taken the final test for each unit or turned in
the writing assignment, you're ready to move on to the next
unit.
SEMESTER ONE:
- 1. Native American Literature (Three weeks)
- 2. Puritan Literature/The Crucible (Six weeks)
- 3. Colonial Literature/ Persuasion (Three weeks)
- 4. Individualism and Romaniticism (Three or Four weeks)
- 5. Linking Mathematics to American Literature (One week)
- 6. Take your First Semester
(fall) FINAL (Last week of the semester should be reserved for studying and review...then take the test.)
SEMESTER TWO:
- 1. The Dark Romantics (Three weeks)
- 2. Slavery and the Civil War (Two-Three weeks)
- 3. Local Color/ The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (Five weeks)
- 4. The Research Paper (Four weeks)
- 5. Linking Mathematics to American Literature (One Week)
- 6. Take your Second Semester
(spring) FINAL (Last week of the semester should be reserved for studying and review...then take the test.)
