Hi, I'm Karen Liljestrand. Welcome to my Web Page. I was born and raised near Lindsborg, Kansas a small Swedish town in south central Kansas. I received my teaching degree from KU, and I am a major "Jayhawk" fan. I have been teaching for 35years. This will be my 32nd year teaching First Grade in the Basehor-Linwood School District. Basehor, Kansas is a small town, west of Kansas City. I live in Kansas City, Missouri and commute each day. I am also the First Grade teacher for the Basehor-Linwood Virtual School.
On a personal note, I enjoy reading. My husband often comments on the fact that the house could probably burn down around me and I wouldn't even notice. I love all kinds of books. I have especially enjoyed the Harry Potter books. I also enjoy collecting bears. We have renamed the guest bedroom, as the "bear room". My favorites are the "Muffy Bears". I have several of the collector bears, but I enjoy buying clothes for the others. Since I was born and raised on a farm, I learned to cook at a very early age. Cooking is still one of my favorite hobbies. My other hobbies are growing plants and flowers. I especially enjoy having the summer free to spend on my yard. When I don't have my nose stuck in a book, or in the yard, or cooking, I am busy taking care of my husband, Syd. We have been married 30 years. I have 2 stepdaughters. One daughter lives here in Kansas City. The other daughter lives in California. I have a 16 year old step grand-daughter who is turning our to be quite a soccer player. My sister lives in Overland Park. It's great to have her so close. My mom and stepdad lived in Smolan, Kansas on a farm very near where I was born and raised for many years. They recently moved to a new home on a lake near Lindsborg. My dad and stepmom live in Mesa, Arizona. That leaves the remaining 3 members of my family. We have 3 ferrets, Taz, Butch, and Dixie. The ferrets keep us in stitches. They are the best pets.
