Standards Based Curriculum:
Basehor-Linwood Virtual School has aligned lessons, assignments, and assessments to Kansas State Curriculum Standards. This effort has been made to help our families focus daily activities on the standards and indicators that are taught at each grade level and for each course. You will see a reference to indicators and standards as you work through course and grade level curriculum. These references are provided to help you become more familiar with the standards and indicators, and to provide you with methods for teaching them.

Since individual hard copy tests are available in the math book at the end of each chapter, social studies and science books have chapter reviews and assessments in their workbooks, I made pre and post tests over my curricular areas that would test the standards and benchmarks that are listed for the Kansas curriculum. I wanted my on-line tests to be generic enough and inclusive enough so that there would be a place where parents could find tests that would assess what the Kansas curriculum expects First Graders to know, not specific information contained in a particular textbook.

Elementary School "Online Testing Expectations"
In order to earn a grade in K-6 core curriculum areas (Math, Reading, English, Spelling, Science, Social Studies), the student must complete all online post tests. The student's grade will be based solely on his/her performance on these online tests. The student must meet the following online testing expectations:

Please take all pretests at the beginning of the year. This lets you know what your child needs to know. Only take it once. This score does not count as a grade. It just allows you to see what your child needs to know. The post test is then given after the material has been taught. This test is an exact copy of the pretest. By taking the same test as a post test you see whether or not your child did in fact master the tested material. Please start taking these pot tests as soon as possible.

Pass all Online Post Tests with at least 80% or better.
If the student earns a score below 80% on an online test, he/she is expected to retake that particular test or quiz a minimum of 7 says later. The two test scores will then be averaged. The highest averaged score possible will be an 80%. This gives the student the opportunity to master the material at a higher level, and receive a better test score through additional review of the content. The student will be expected to use test retaking opportunities appropriately.

If the student has not met 80% mastery of the material after two test attempts, we would not encourage continued retaking of the test or quiz. Additional support can be sought through the grade level support staff.
If you have any questions please contact Brenda DeGroot or Nicole Williams at (913) 724-1727
